READ ABOUT OUR FIRST GREEN BUILD PROJECT!

Homeport, Columbus Housing Partnership’s (CHP) home sales division, has launched its first “Green Build” initiative in the King-Lincoln district on Columbus’ near east side.  The scattered-site, mixed-income neighborhood, targeted by the City of Columbus for renovation and reinvestment is “greener” due to The NeighborWorks – Home Depot Foundation Green Building Award.

CHP has used green design and building standards in the construction of its affordable homes. These ecologically friendly homes will feature high quality construction and high-energy efficiency, resulting in lower heating and cooling cost for homeowners.

Homeport has launched its first “Green Build” initiative in the NOBO Development. CHP is using green design and building standards in the construction of affordable homes, the first of which broke ground in autumn 2006. These ecologically friendly homes will feature high quality construction and high-energy efficiency, resulting in lower heating and cooling cost for homeowners.

Some of these new build houses will have a moderate level of “green”, including aspects such as HardiPlank siding, high-efficiency plumbing fixtures, EnergyStar appliances and light fixtures, and efficient landscaping techniques to minimize the dwelling's environmental impact.  Other “green” homes will serve as pilot projects and seek to maximize efficiency and sustainability.

A Scrape Tire Grant (STG) was awarded to the City of Columbus to observe the ground tire rubber asphalt performance over time.

• The combination of a “green” street and “green” homes will assist in fulfilling the “Get Green Columbus Program launched by Mayor Coleman in 2005.
